Nightlife Guide To Lanzarote
Lanzarote’s popularity as a perfect spot for package holidays has meant that a lively and exciting nightlife has developed on the island that is more than enough to keep the average holidaymaker busy. Whilst you may not find the same international club scene here as somewhere like Ibiza, there are watering holes, dancing dens and plenty to keep you entertained from dusk until dawn. If you want to make sure that you’re going to be staying in one of the island’s livelier nightlife spots then aim for Arrecife, Puerto del Carmen or Costa Teguise, where you will find an assortment of clubs, bars and pubs offering everything from classy cocktails to super cheap happy hour bargains.
Lanzarote’s capital, Arrecife, is a vibrant place and the perfect location if you want to explore the kind of nightlife that the locals love. Here you will find the less touristy nightspots that are not quite as heavy with holidaymakers, but are more than enough to keep the town’s 60,000 inhabitants entertained. Calle José Antonio is lively with pubs and bars into the early hours, and you’ll find plenty of establishments just a few hundred metres from the beach. As well as a selection of disco bars, Arrecife also has several large nightclubs, such as Biosfera.
Puerto del Carmen is the perfect place for nightlife lovers looking for some serious partying and visitors come from all over the island once the sun goes down to drink and dance the night away. Centro Atlantico and Avenida de las Playas are the places to be for the widest selection of bars and pubs, from English and Irish pubs to classy cocktail bars. There are Ibiza style chill out lounges where drinks and DJs are the order of the day, as well as plenty more traditional disco bars that offer fantastic drinks deals and lots of cheesy tunes to dance around your handbag to. Into the early hours these disco bars, such as Jungle Bar and Atlantis, are a great option for a good laugh or there are several clubs, such as Caesar’s, which tend to draw the more serious clubbers.
If you’re looking for some vibrant nightspots but you don’t fancy the intensity of Puerto del Carmen then Costa Teguise is the perfect compromise. Whilst the nightlife here is more dispersed than in Puerto del Carmen – and perhaps more family orientated – head to the Avenida de Jabillo if you want to be right at the heart of much of the action. Alternatively, you can explore the surrounding streets to track down small local establishments, karaoke, family and sports bars. There are a number of cocktail bars right next to the beach in Costa Teguise, where you can sit and enjoy a relaxed margarita as the sun goes down, as well as English pubs, jazz spots and even a comedy drag showbar.
There’s a wide range of nightlife on offer in Lanzarote, whether you’re looking for some 18-30s cheesy action or something with a more committed clubbing vibe. Remember that Spanish nightlife rarely kicks off before midnight so take an early evening snooze, head out for tapas at 10 and don’t plan on heading to bed before sunrise!
